This new musical style is diverse and has several ranges of music from garage punk to synthpunk, and even post-punk. Fans of punk music tend to gravitate toward one or the other type of music in this broad genre. Traditionally, this music is hardcore, aggressive, and raw, which makes it feel more real than other types of music, but might be a little too hardcore for some listeners. This is where the Devocore style comes from. This is a much milder and more experimental approach to music. Some might even call this approach a bit nerdy, which might make it more appealing to some. What is Egg Punk?
Using similar stylings to Devo, which was a famous band in the 1970s, this type of punk music includes high-pitched, nasally vocals and whimsical and satirical lyrics. The snappy rhythms, standout bass lines, and synthetic sound made by cheap keyboards are part of the mix.
This music was started in Northwest Indiana in 2013 as a response to some of the chain punk bands in the DIY circuit of the area. Those punk bands were viewed as taking their music and message too seriously. Mark Winter is said to be instrumental in propelling this subgenre of music from its local area to the broader scale, most famously with the success of The Coneheads.
Another important name in the Egg Punk scene is Lumpy and the Dumpers, which launched its own label, called Lumpy Records. This has allowed them to be a huge influence in spreading the microgenre around the country.
The weird movement of modern punk
There are several bands falling under this new spectrum that could give you the sounds you want to hear and experience, if you’re looking for this new sound, which has 1970s influence. There are bands playing all around the country, and the sound brings in influence from more than just Devo, despite being called “devocore”. You might notice some influence from Flipper and other genres that come together and get mixed into the sounds. There are even some bands that are known as “the egg punk band for the chain punks,” like Dawn of Humans.

Some YouTube channels feature Egg Punk sounds and recorders tat you can listen to and enjoy. The channel simply called Jimmy, is well known for its commitment to the Devocore music scene. After the first meme appeared in 2017, several additional memes have flooded the internet and social media scenes, bringing in the new sounds and thoughts about various punk music subgenres.
This type of punk music has made its way to other countries, with some German labels carrying Egg Punk bands that music lovers might want to hear and enjoy. This new wave of music in the punk rock scene is growing rapidly, giving listeners something interesting, nerdy, and more satirical than traditional punk rock.
