People are interesting. Some people will try new, crazy, and dangerous things simply because they’re bored and want to try something new. Still, there are stories out there, whether they involve people, animals, or plants, that are odd and strange in ways that remind you of just how interesting the world can be.

Here are just a few of the crazy new stories that have surfaced recently.

A Shark in Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan is one of the largest fresh water bodies. Without access to the ocean, you wouldn’t think a shark could get in unless put there. We’re not talking about an actual shark, but a man who calls himself The Shark. Jim Dreyer is an ultra-swimmer, and at the age of 61, is attempting to cross Lake Michigan from Michigan to Wisconsin. He’s attempted this swim before and had to give up after 60 miles because he had trouble with his GPS device. This swim should cover at least 80 miles and take 72 hours, which he will go without sleep.

Ohio Says “No Munchies Allowed”

Ohio recently legalized recreational marijuana sales, and many dispensaries received warnings and fines for advertising ahead of the legalized date of August 6. One such dispensary, Greenleaf Apothecaries, was issued a proposed fine of $150,000 for advertising “Free Ice Cream” to be handed out from an ice cream truck. This was in violation of state laws, and the social media post had to be removed because the sign was not attached to the dispensary. Greenleaf is trying to reach a resolution with the state, but it seems you can buy your weed and munchies in the same place.

The Dog Who Lived

When we have pets, we form a serious bond with them. Among the crazy new stories that popped up, French film icon Alain Delon passed away and had previously said he wanted his dog buried with him. The dog, named Loubo, is a Belgian Malinois that the actor adopted in 2014. The actor suggested he wanted a veterinarian to put Loubo to sleep to be buried with him if only to relieve the dog of the suffering that could come after his owner died. Thankfully, Loubo will live.

Beware the Watermelon Meth

Drugs get into our country from Southern countries in many ways. Recently, a truckload of watermelons was siezed at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in San Diego. The watermelons contained methamphetamine in disguise. The value was more than $5 million, and it was part of a cargo load on a tractor-trailer from Mexico. There were many actual watermelons in the shipment, but officers found 1,220 packages wrapped in paper that was colored to look like watermelon skins.

Hooky on the Rooftop

Another one of the many crazy news stories that surfaces recently involved a child that was reported missing. This has to be one of the most disturbing and terrible feelings for any parent; not knowing where you child is. The 9-year-old boy was spotted on the roof of his New York City building playing hooky from school. Its was a TV news helicopter crew that spotted the boy when circling the building.

A Strange Sense of Naval Humor

Germany is well-known for trying to take over the entire world during the early part of the 20th century. Recently, a German warship cruised down the River Thames in London playing the Imperial March. For those not familiar, this the song played whenever Darth Vader enters the scene in Star Wars. The ship was simply on a training mission and the ship’s commander has free range to choose whatever music they want. The music may have no deeper meaning than that, but maybe the commander should have chosen different tune.

Reunion Time

When you want a heartwarming take among the crazy news stories, how about a cat being reunited with its previous owner after being gone for 11 years? The cat named Sam Sam the Kittycat Man went missing 11 years ago and owner Jennifer Ravenel couldn’t hold another cat in her lap since. A recent pickup by Charleston County Animal Control in South Carolina found that Sam Sam, who has a chip in his neck, was scanned and identified. The call went out to Ravenel, and she came to take her long-lost and beloved cat home.
